There are many options available for professional teeth whitening. Two popular methods are with lasers and the Zoom! Teeth Whitening System. Here, our Kanata dentists explain the differences between these whitening methods.
As much as dental technology has progressed, there is still no way to completely stop the natural darkening of teeth as we age. Luckily, there are a number of teeth whitening options available that can fight against discolouration and brighten your smile.
While many people assume methods like Zoom! and laser whitening are the same, there are many differences between these whitening methods.
Laser Teeth Whitening
With laser teeth whitening, your dentist applies a whitening gel and then activates it with a special dental laser designed to whiten teeth. While it does accomplish its goal of whitening teeth, there are a few drawbacks.
Because the laser is small it can only cover a small amount of the tooth at a time. This results in more exposure to whiten the whole smile, and can also lead to unwanted infrared emissions.
Zoom! Teeth Whitening System
For a quick, effective smile makeover, Zoom! Teeth Whitening works well. Zoom! teeth whitening takes about two hours at your dental office.
After preparing your teeth, your dentist will apply the whitening gel and activate it with a low-heat lamp. The gel will remove deep stains and discolourations and can leave your teeth up to 10 shades whiter.
The light used for the process filters out infrared emissions to limit the extra heat your teeth are exposed to. The Zoom! light can also hit the entire mouth at once, which greatly reduces the amount of time it takes to whiten teeth, leading to shorter appointments.
